| Sharad wants separatists to participate in polls | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Apr 7 Janata Dal(U) on Monday said the separatists in Jammu and Kashmir should not boycott the forthcoming assembly elections in the state as participation in the process will give them an opportunity to express their views. "The separatists should not boycott the elections. They should come forward and take part in the democratic process as it would give them a chance to put forth their view in a better way," JD (U) president Sharad Yadav, who is on a two-day visit here, said on Sunday. On the stalled dialogue process between the Centre, Hurriyat Conference and Pakistan, Yadav said the Indo-Pakistan dialogue process should be resumed now as a democratically elected government was in place in the neighbouring country and positive signals were emanating from there. "The Centre-Hurriyat dialogue process should not be viewed separately. When the Indo-Pak dialogue resumes, the talks with Hurriyat shall also resume simultaneously," he said. On the recent statement of former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif about abolishing visa regime between India and Pakistan, Yadav said it was a welcome development. "We have a visa-free travel between India and Nepal and India and Bhutan. The Government should take steps to look into the possibility of having same arrangement for travel to Pakistan," he said. On the apprehensions that a visa-free regime might lead to an increase in smuggling and criminal activities, Yadav said, "Hawala operators and smugglers are not bound by visa regimes. They still carry out these activities." |
