Alleging step motherly treatment to the teaching community by state government, the government teachers under the banner of Teachers Joint Action Committee (TJAC) today observed mass causal leave in support of their demands.
Hundreds of the activists drawn from the Jammu district today have assembled outside Exhibition Ground here and staged a protest dharna.
Balwan Singh Jamwal leader of the TJAC said that teaching community has been raising several of its just and genuine demands but, Government instead of addressing the issues, has adopted delaying tactics in resolving their demands.
“The teaching community is continuously proceeding on the path of struggle, as we are being provoked by the not extending notional and financial benefits at par with accounts employees”, he said.
It seems that the state govt. is adopting delaying tactics in spite of showing lip sympathy to the teachers by terming them as builder of nation, but observing mysterious silence over the hardships being faced by them, he said further.
Teachers alleged that discrimination on undoing injustice done to teachers in the forms of anomalies with respect to other cadre viz accounts and SO’s and denial leave encashment are the two issues causing unprecedented resentment amongst the teaching community.
The demands highlighted during the press conference included benefits of earned leave, masters grade at par with SOs grades (7450-1150) and national and financial benefits w.e.f. 01-01-1996 and 01-01-2003 respectively to teachers and masters, reduction in qualifying service for retirement from 33 years to 21 years, regularization of ReT teachers after 3 years, seniority from date of joining as ReT and enhancement of wages from Rs 1500 to Rs 4000, separate directorate for Primary, Middle and High Department on the pattern of neighbouring states, 15 pc dislocation allowance, enhancement in retirement age from 58 yrs to 62 years, filling up of vacancies in all cadres by DPC.
He asked the teaching community to assemble at Press Club on April 7 near Exhibition Ground instead of Mubarak Mandi keeping in view the Jammu Festival, where protest demonstration will be staged.
Later, the leaders of the TJAC submitted memorandum to the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu. Similar protest demonstration and dharna were also organized different district headquarters of the state.
