JKP to demonstrate sports talent at national, international levels: Khoda

Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda has said that Jammu and Kashmir Police ought to come out of the state and national competitions to demonstrate sports mettle at international events for which our state possesses good talent. He underscored the need that Jammu and Kashmir Police would participate in national and international events to earn the name of JKP. He said that all previous records should be given new thrust by achieving excellent record in the field of sportsmanship.
Mr. Khoda declared open 5-day Inter Zone Sports Meet-2008, organized by Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police at a colorful function held at JK Police Sports Stadium, Gulshan Ground here this morning.
After declaring the event open, addressing the function, Mr. Khoda said that Jammu and Kashmir Police has worked in various fields in difficult situations during past 19 years be it proxy war of militancy, crime control, maintaining of law and order and other professional policing in the state but side by side like other activities, JKP has also remained in fore front in the field of sports and earned laurels for the state in various sports activities in the country. He said, “we have initiated various schemes under civic action programme so that maximum facilities could be provided to expose the youngsters to the competitive world so that they can face the challenges with confidence and success”. He said that the objective of organizing sports activities by the Police Organization at various levels was to give boost our young generation to develop the sports culture among them.
Giving the details of achievements with regard to sports activities of Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Director General of Police said that at the International level Inspector Kuldeep Handoo has been selected for two tours as Indian Wu-shu Coach for Banglade and Poland. In national level, Sub Inspector Rashid Hussain participated in World Fencing Championship at St. Petersburg and selected for Pre-Olympic qualifying round at Bankok. He said during 33rd National Games at Guwahati Assam, gold medal was won by Inspector Kuldeep Handoo, one silver medal in Fencing was won by SI Rashid Hussain, silver and bronze each medal in Aquatic by Sgct Zahoor Ahmed, bronze medal in Aquatic by Sgct Parvaiz Ahmed and bronze medal in Boxing by constable Ravinder Bhushan. In nationals our jawans Vivek Basan, Sanjeev Sharma have won gold and silver medals respectively during the 16th Senior Ntional Wu-Shu Championship at Meerut in January last.
Similarly the jawans of JKAP Aman Sangral, Vikas Narwalia, Raman Sharma and Sunil Kumar won Gold and Silver medals respectively during 16th Senior National Wu-Shu Championship held at Meerut in last January. In North Zone Senior National Boxing championship held at Samrala, Punjab constables Aman Sangral, Vikas Narwalia, Raman Sharma, and Sunil Kumar have won bronze medals.
He said during the past 15 years Jammu and Kashmir has gained a lot of confidence in sports activities and will fight through police sports personnel of the state exhibited splendid play on the field and won several medals. They must display excellent performance by winning more and more medals for the state at the national level meets, he added..
Mr. Khoda said that government is aware of the difficulties being faced by the officers and jawans in their day-to-day life and living conditions but our efforts will continue to provide more and more facilities to the jawans and officers of the organization.
Mr. Khoda appreciated the efforts made by Inspector General of Police Armed J&K, and his team of officers for organizing the Inter Zones Sports Meet in Jammu and making the event a success.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Inspector General of Police, Armed, J&K, Sheikh Owais Ahmed threw light on the 5-day long Inter Zone Sports meet and gave detailed account of the tournament in which more than 18 events would be played in different play fields in Jammu city in which more than 400 sports persons would participate. He thanked the Director General of Police for his relentless efforts to take the organization to new heights and said that under his inspiring leadership J&K police would excel in every field.
On the occasion, Mr. Khoda took the salute on march-past of sports persons, taking part in the events.
Among others the function was attended by Vigilance Commissioner, Dr. Ashok Bhan, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Mr. Sudhanshu Pandey, Inspectors General of Police, Mr. K.Rajendra Kumar, Mr. P. L.Gupta, Mr. Ram Lubhaya, Mr. Gopal Reddy, Dr. S.P.Vaid, Mr. Dilbagh Singh, Raja Aijaz Ali, Mr. A.K.Gupta, Mr. M.Amin Shah, Mr. Z.H.Chisti, senior retired and police officers.
