MCA, Geology Deptts enter into QFs of Cricket

The Department of Master of Computer Applications (MCA) and Department of Geology today sailed into the quarterfinals of ongoing Inter-Department Cricket Tournament organized by Department of Physical Education of the University of Jammu, here today.
In the first pre-quarterfinal played today, MCA XI trounced Department of Mathematics by four wickets.
Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, Mathematics Department set a target of 94 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the 16 overs match, which, in reply, MCA XI chased making 97 runs for the loss of six wickets sparing 2.5 overs of the innings.
Sunil Sharma remained the top scorer with 15 runs while Vinod and Sunil contributed 13 each. Ashish Khurana clinched three wickets for MCA giving away 10 runs. Vikas, Farooq and Manish shared apiece each.
Batting second, MCA XI made a good start and attained the goal with a boundary hit by Abhishek in 13.1 overs for the loss of six wickets. Abhishek was top scorer with 20-ball 27 runs studded with four boundaries. Sahil and Gulshan had valuable contributions of 24 and 18 runs respectively. Sunil and Sandeep shared five wickets between them with three and two respectively.
The second pre-quarterfinal was won by Department of Geology, who beat The Business School by a big margin of 75 runs.
Batting first, Department of Geology made 166 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs, which, in reply, Business School could not chase and lost all their wickets for 92 runs in 15.3 overs. Akashdeep performed well contributing 49 runs (off 25 balls, 1x6, 8x4) and then took two wickets. However, the credit for Geology’s big win goes to Varun, who claimed six wickets for 15 runs in 3.3 overs.
Suresh Kumar, Raj Kumar, Pankaj, Ashwani and Sat Pal officiated today’s matches.
