Court frames charges against Branch Post-Master

Special Judge Anticorruption Jammu Mr. Kartar Singh today framed charges against Mohd Shafi Shaan, Branch Post-Master Gool District Udhampur allegedly involved in misappropriation of Rs 7.70 lakhs
According to the CBI case accused while posted as Branch Post-Master Post-Office Gool prepared list of 581 receipts along with daily branch-office account of September 29, 2006 and September 30, 2006 which was received by sub-post office Ramban on October 5, 2006 when the same was opened by the postal assistant, no cash was found in it as per TRC list of 581 receipts as same was not sent by the accused. The total amount Rs 7, 40, 055/- was collected by the accused and was supposed to forward the amount to sub post office Ramban which he did not enter in the daily branch office account and falsely showed receipt of Rs 7, 09, 781/- instead of Rs 7, 40, 055/- .
That all the 581 TRC receipts have been prepared and issued by the accused but he failed to account for the said amount and being a public servant, knowingly and fraudulently, misappropriated the said amount, therefore, caused wrongful loss to the department and wrongful gain to himself to the tune of Rs 7, 40, 055.
Special Judge, after hearing the Special Public Prosecutor SK Bhat appearing for the CBI and going through the record, observed that the accused Mohd Shafi Shaan s/o Ghulam Qadir Shaan by the above said acts committed offences U/Ss 409 r/w 477-A RPC and 5(1) (c) r/w 5(2) of J&K PC Act 2006 and ordered for trial of the case.
