| PM to gift Dul Hasti to J&K | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 7 Amidst hectic preparations and security drills, the wish lists are being prepared in several quarters as Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is all set to be in the town towards the end of this month. Official sources confirmed to EARLY TIMES that the Prime Minister will be coming in April 25. The Prime Minister was earlier scheduled to be here on March 25 but the program was deferred by a month. This will be Prime Minister’s second visit to Jammu region within one year. Earlier last year he had come at the Special Convocation of Jammu University in July. What has put the security forces on the toes is the news that the Prime Minister will be staying here for the night. Dr Singh’s visit, sources said, has been extended to two days. He will be reaching Jammu on April 25 and will return on the next day.
There are three activities on Prime Minister’s Jammu itinerary. On the day of his arrival, the Prime Minister will address the convocation of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University where elaborate preparations are underway since last two months. The Raj Bhawan and the SMVD University authorities are on the toes for making the convocation a grand success. After convocation, the Prime Minister will be launching the second Akhnoor bridge. According to tentative program, the next day the Prime Minister will visit the Dul Hasti project to dedicate the 390 Mega Watt hydro-electric power project to Jammu and Kashmir. The project has been built by the National Hydro-electric Power Corporation in the Center sector but is being handed over to the State sector after massive demand from the political leadership. During his overnight stay at Jammu, the Prime Minister is also likely to meet the political leadership and other public representative. Even though his public meeting program is still reported to be tentative but various organizations are getting in touch with the Divisional Commissioner’s office for appointment. |
