Investigations in the high profile Chopra murder case have come to a standstill and the state police team camping in Madhay Pradesh to trap Sangram Singh, king pin of Pardhi gang, is not hopeful of early breakthrough in the case.
Reliable sources have revealed to the Kashmir Independent Press that one of the Assistant Sub Inspector of MP police Mohabat Singh Raghuvanshi was in direct touch with the king pin of the Padhri gang Sangram Singh through mobile before he committed suicide under mysterious circumstances in Guna on February 16,2008.
Police sources said the ASI was in league with the accused and the senior police officials have warned him to arrest Sangram Singh or face action. It is learnt that senior police officers have also made it clear to ASI that if he failed to nab Sangram Singh charges against him will also be framed in the murder case.
Sources said that the ASI in his suicide note had accused his superiors in the STF wing and Intelligence wing of MP police for undue harassment. But thorough investigations carried later on have revealed that both the officers named by ASI Mohabat Singh had actually trapped him and had recorded his conversation with Sangram Singh. According to reliable sources, ASI was in direct touch with Sangram Singh through mobile phone and had made as many as over 50 calls in one week before he died under mysterious circumstances.
Police sources claimed that STF men had recorded conversations of Sangram Singh and police ASI. Sangram Singh had made an offer to the police ASI to allow him to escape from the area in lieu of which he will hand him exorbitant sum of money. ASI had however, informed him that JK police was camping in the area and it is advisable for him to relocate for some time. A hot chase is on and against you and i cannot shield you, ASI had reportedly informed Sangram Singh during one of the conversations.
Sources said that when STF team produced these conversations in front of ASI Mohabat Singh and sought his explanation he promised to help the STF in arresting Sangram Singh.
At the same time ASI had developed fears that if he ditched Sangram Singh safety of his own family would be at stake as Sangram Singh had the ruthless image of a killer in the area. Instead of helping the STF and Sangram Singh,ASI Mohabbat Singh Raghuvanshi chose to commit suicide, the police sources said to safeguard life of his own family. The case has been making little headway iafter the suicide of ASI, Jammu police officials supervising the probe in the case said.
