‘Trade along LoC in three months’

Srinagar | Apr 7
Reopened after 57 years to allow divided families to meet, the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road, connecting two parts of Jammu and Kashmir, is all set to be thrown open for cross-border trade between India and Pakistan.
The bus service between the two cities named 'Carvan-e-Aman', is completing three years of its launch on Monday. The trade via the Line of Control will be a reality within three months.
"I hope, we will have trade along the LoC within 90 days. There are no bottlenecks and no logistics problem in starting the trade," Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh said.
"The items to be imported and exported have been agreed to and locations identified," Ramesh, who was here in connection with the foundation stone laying ceremony for International Trade Centre recently, said.
The fortnightly bus service touted as a major Confidence Building Measure (CBM) by both the countries, will carve out a place in Indo-Pak history, as it would now serve also as the trade link between the neighbours.
However, with the latest development of trade ties in sight, various political parties in the state have started taking credit for it.
While People's Democratic Party (PDP), ally of the ruling-Congress, has been highlighting its role in renewing bilateral ties, Congress is not lagging behind.
