| Open Suchetgarh-Sialkote road to boost economy of Jammu region: Mufti | | Several NC workers join PDP | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 8 Stressing on the need of opening more routes on border to facilitate free movement of people on both sides, former Chief Minister and Patron of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammed Sayeed today reiterated his party's demand of opening Sailkote-Suchetgarh road to boost economy of Jammu region. "Opening of Suchetgarh-Sialkote and Jhangar-Nowshera roads would further help in normalizing relations in the sub-continent", Sayed said while addressing a public meeting at village Jandyal Nagrota, adding, "I will ask the Union Government to bring this matter before the new Pakistani Government to open these routes as early as possible". Sayeed said that due the efforts of the government, when he was Chief Minister of the State, investors from different parts of the country came forward to invest in Jammu region. He said that during the last few years Jammu has emerged as hub of industry and so is the Sialkote of Pakistan. "Opening of route between two cities would boost economy of both Jammu and Sialkote and facilitate trade between industrialists of both the cities", he said and sounded confidence that with the opening of this vital road link economy of Jammu region would be boomed and numerous job opportunities would be created in this region of the State. Mufti further demanded that Suchetgarh route should be developed on the pattern of Wagha border from where visitors can go across the border. He said that with the opening of this route not only trade would be flourished it would also facilitate the pilgrims who visit Nankana Sahib and other religious places on other sides of the border. He stressed on the need of easing restrictions to allow all citizens of Jammu and Kashmir to move freely on both sides of border and hoped that time is now not far when these restrictions would be removed. Taking a dig at previous National Conference regime for indulged into backdoor appointments, PDP patron said, "During our government we appointed as many as 50,000 teachers and all appointments were made in transparent manner". He reminded that even appointment orders were handed over to the candidates at their door steps to bring transparency. "Not even a single candidate was appointment without merit", he asserted, "our party cadre got annoyed as appointments were without any influence and only genuine and deserving candidates were selected" He appreciated generous support given by the then NDA Government and present UPA regime for the upliftment and development of the State. "Without support of Union Government it was not possible for us to initiate development process in the State", he said while pointing towards economic packages announced by the successive Union governments for the State. Responding to the demands of local people, Mufti said that his party would work over time to mitigate their woes. In this meeting senior National Conference leader and local Sarpanch Joginder Singh Kakku along with his hundreds of supporters joined PDP in the presence of Mufti Mohammed Sayeed. He expressed faith in the policies and programmes of the party. |
