| ISM Director for more herbal units in J&K | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 8 Director Indian Systems of Medicines (ISM), Dr. Abdul Kabir Dar has laid the emphasis for the development of more manufacturing units of herbal medicines in Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking during the three day Herbal International Summit and Expo held in the Union Capital, Dr Dar impressed upon the Central Government to establish a herbal drug standardization unit in Jammu and Kashmir so that the cost burden of the manufacturers of the State will be minimized. He informed that the Department of Indian Systems of Medicine J&K will organize AROGYA 2008 in J&K in collaboration with Department of AYUSH Govt. of India, so that a mass awareness about the medicinal plants of J&K be established. The Summit was organized by ASSOCHAM in collaboration with Department of AYUSH Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Science and Technology Department of Biotechnology Govt. of India and Directorate of Indian Systems of Medicine Govt. of J&K. During the summit, the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) and ADMA announced the establishment of formal agreement of cooperation. The AHPA represents the Herbal Industry in the United States, while ADMA serves the same function for A.S.U(Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani) trade in India. There were deliberations on different issues relating to medicinal plants like marketing, cultivation, adulteration, identification, exports status and strategic options for entry in to USA markets. During the expo, the AHPA showed keen interest in herbal products of J&K and was curious to know about high altitude plants of J&K. Various programs were organized with National and International Marketing, Manufacturing and AYUSH representatives so that the Herbal resources of J&K can be exploited which in-turn will not only boost economy and tourism for the state but also will provide employment opportunities and standardized Health Care under India Systems of Medicine. A good number of state-based manufacturing units for herbal products including F Faisam Agro Farms, Kashmir, Rahul Pharma, Jammu and Himaliya Research Labs, Jammu also participated in the exhibition. |
