Surinder Club, MR XI win opening ties

Surinder Cricket Club (SCC) and MR XI won their respective ties in the opening day of the Rohit Dogra Memorial Cricket Tournament organized by Kashyap Sports Club at MAM College grounds, here today.
In the first match, MR XI defeated Saraswati Cricket Club by a margin of 34 runs. Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, MR XI set a target of 164 runs for the loss of three wickets in the stipulated 20 overs, which, in reply, Saraswati XI could not chase and exhausted their quota of 20 overs for 129 runs losing nine wickets.
Sunil Tikoo and Vinay was top scorers with 50 and 48 runs respectively while Vikas Raina contributed 36 runs studded with three sixes and two boundaries. From Sarastwati Club, Kuldeep, Alok and Rajeev took one wicket each.
Batting second, Saraswati Club could make 129 runs for nine in 20 overs thereby losing the match by 34 runs. Kuldeep (18), Vinay (17), Sanjay (16) and Vijay (14) were main scorers. Ajay was most successful bowler from MR XI with four wickets while Sanjay took two and Vikas one.
For his brilliant 25-ball fifty, Sunil Tikoo was adjudged man of the match.
In the second match of the day, Surinder Cricket Club (SCC) trounced Knight Riders by six wickets.
Batting first, Knight Riders bowled out for 74 runs in 20 overs. Rajesh Dutta and Love were maximum scorers with 19 runs each. Rajeev claimed four wickets for SCC while Mintoo took three and Vikas two.
In reply, SCC chased the 75 runs target in 11.1 overs for four. Rahul played fine innings of 40 (off 23 balls, 4x6, 3x4) runs while Vikas and Kamal contributed 13 and 12 runs respectively. Siddharth took two wickets for Knight Riders. For his match winning innings of 40, Rahul was declared man of the match.
In all, 16 teams are taking part in this 20-over a side knock-out tournament.
The opening day of the tournament was graced besides others by Sham Saroop Kalsotra, vice-chairman Jammu wing of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) and C L Charangoo, member working Committee JKCA
