| HM’s longest surviving done down | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 8 The militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen suffered yet another deadly blow when Police and security forces in joint operation gunned down one of its top commanders who had been evading a gun chase for long. Hassan Wani alias Shameem Thool, the self styled Divisional Commander of Hizbul Mujahideen was killed after a fierce gun battle in Batyas area of Gandoh tehsil late last night. The Pakistan origin hardcore militant, Thool was trained in Pakistan and is believed to be one of the longest surviving militant in the region. Defence spokesperson said, on a tip off a joint team of security forces including troops of 26 Rashtriya Rifles and Jammu and Kashmir police had launched a cordon and search operation in Batyas area in remote Gandoh tehsil of Doda district late Monday night During the search, police and 26 Rashtriya Rifles troops zeroed in on a hideout and asked inhabitants inside the building to surrneder. A fierce encounter soon ensued between the two sides in which a Hizbul divisional commander was killed in the wee hours. He said,s ecurity forces recovered an AK 47 rifle, pistol, satellite phone, grenades and wireless set from the site of gunfight . Shamim Thool, was closely associated with Sayeed Salahuddin in PoK, chairman of United Jehad council. Thool had received training in terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Khost in Afghanistan, was the oldest surviving terrorist in Jammu and Kashmir as he was active since 1992, official sources said. |
