| 900 students, teachers participate in 'Heritage Walk' | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 10 More than 900 students and teachers from various educational institutions of Jammu today participated in Heritage Walk here as part of ongoing Jammu festival. The Heritage Walks, which was organised by the tourism department in collaboration with Master Tours and Travels, started from lawns of Amar Mahal and culminated at Purani Mandi area after passing through various parts of the old city. Flagging off the Heritage Walk this morning, Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Aijaz Ahmed Khan underscored the need for preserving and conserving the rich heritage of the state. He said history was witness to the fact the nations who preserve and conserve their heritage emerge as well developed and advanced, adding that they needed to transmit heritage and culture to next generations in order to glorify their future. Their is need to acquaint the younger generations about the art and culture of Dogra, he said. He said Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has always laid thrust on the importance of preserving the heritage and culture of the state. Therefore, the government has decided to celebrate for the first time Jammu Festival 2008 for the period of fortnight from January one. The rich heritage of Jammu and Kashmir needs to be preserved for all times to come so that these heritage sites find place in the national and international tourism map. |
