These micro hydel projects would run on Amrawati stream Sindh rivers from Sonamarg side. According to Shrine Board sources the two projects would be commissioned from the first week of June while the two month annual yatra is to start from June 18. The Board has earmarked about Rs.2.90 crores for clearing the mountain route from Baltal to the cave of snow and boulders and for constructing pre-fabricated huts and toilets where hot water will be supplied to the pilgrims during the yatra period. These pre-fabricated huts would be given on contract to private parties, and preference to be given to local people, for running the affairs in those huts for which they shall have to pay commission to the Board. The Board has given permission to 130 parties for setting up langars not only between Pahalgam and the holy cave but also between Baltal and the cave and on some selected points on the national highway between Jammu and Qazigund. During the two month long yatra, the Board has made arrangements for helicopter sorties which will carry old, infirm and women pilgrims to the holy cave. Already, the Shrine Board has taken up with the Government the issue of up gradation of the mountain route between Pahalgam and the cave. The Public Works Department has been assigned the task of broadening and renovating the 45-km long route. |
