| Mula Ram for encouraging youth to speak Dogri, adopt Dogra culture | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 10 Captivating cultural bonanza of Dogri folk music and dance was organized as a part of ongoing Jammu Festival programmes at Government College for Women, Parade here last evening. The enthusiastic and overwhelmed juvenile artists of the college presented colourful edifying items on Dogra folk which kept the audience spell bound for hours together. Minister for Rural Development Mula Ram was the chief guest at the programme which was organized by Tourism Department. . Addressing the gathering, the Minister said that celebration of Jammu Festival is an info entertainment programme to preserve and educate the budding generations about their Dogra Cultural heritage. He stressed for adopting the language of the soil in their day-to-day life style. He said that young people should be encouraged to speak in mother tongue and make efforts to preserve their rich cultural treasure. He said that the renowned artists of the Jammu region are being presenting colourful cultural items to highlight rich culture heritage at their respective district headquarters. Besides the festival would comprise rural sports events like tug of war, volleyball, Kabbadi etc for the rural youth. Musical events, Mushaira and Dangal would also be highlights of the ongoing festival. He said that holding of such events is beneficial for boosting the morale of artists and students besides providing a platform to expose their talent in the field of art and sports. Highlighting the relevance of rich cultural ethos of the country particularly Jammu and Kashmir, the Minister said that our state has age old traditions having more relevance even in today’s challenging world. He said exhibiting our culture in celebrations would not be enough to combat prevailing social evils but we all have to adopt these high ethical values in our daily life. The Minister called upon the younger generations to contribute to the maximum to save our eroding cultural values. He said that if we will apply these in our own families then it will bring a transformation in the society. He stressed upon the participating departments for collective efforts to make the festival a success and result oriented. The Minister also went round stalls installed by various departments for the attraction of the people which also include ethnic food stalls with local dishes. Principal Government College for Women Parade Prof. Usha Jayee, Chief Technical Advisor WIBP, New Delhi, Joint Director Tourism Jammu S. M. Sahni, Ex-Principal of the college and Social Worker Prof. Rita Jitender, students and parents were present on the occasion. |
