Sociology, History Deptts enter semifinals

Department of Sociology and Department of History won their respective ties to reach the semi-finals of ongoing Inter-Department Cricket Tournament of University of Jammu, here today.
In the first match of the day, Sociology Department trounced Department of Masters of Computers Applications (MCA) by seven wickets. Batting first, MCA bowled out for 131 runs in 18.3 overs of the 20 overs match, which, in reply, Sociology Department chased in mere 13 overs for the loss of three wickets.
Sahil was top scorer from MCA with 42 runs coming off 35 deliveries including six fours while Manish and Ashish contributed 33 and 21 runs respectively. From Sociology, Nasir Ali Shah bagged three wickets. Rahul and Amit shared apiece each.
Batting second, Sociology Department chased the total making 135 runs in 13 overs with seven wickets in hand. Rahul remained the top scorer with 34-ball 42 runs including four boundaries and a six while Naseer and Arun added 30 (off 13 balls, 7x4) and 21 (off 15 balls, 3x4) runs respectively. From MCA, Sahil, Farooq and Vikas shared apiece each.
The second quarterfinal match of the day was won by Department of History beating Department of Geology by 17 runs. Batting first, History Department lost all their wickets for 148 runs in the allotted 20 overs. Omar, Vikas, Satinder and Shashi were main scorers with 28, 25, 20 and 18 runs respectively. From Geology, Sanjay was most successful bowler with four for 17 while Venus took two.
In reply, Geology Department could make 131 runs for the loss of wickets in the allotted 20 overs with Narinder being the top scorer with 45 runs including five boundaries. Yawar clinched two wickets while Zaheer, Taqdeer, Vikas, Sanjeet and Sushil shared one wicket each.
Today’s matches were officiated by Naveen, Raj Kumar, Ashwani Kotwal, Vijay Kumar and Sat Paul.
