| Close link between Al Qaeda and jehadi groups in J&K: Saran | | | New Delhi, Aug 28: Asking the international community not to resort to any segmentation in the war against terror, India today said there was close alignment between terrorist group Al Qaeda and Pakistan-based jehadi outfits operating in Jammu and Kashmir and the scourge has to be fought comprehensively in whatever form it emerged. New Delhi said while it sought good relations with Pakistan, the vision of a flourishing South Asia could not be realised under the shadow of terror.
"No no segmentation is possible in the war against terrorism. You cannot have a priority list...That Al Qaeda is the main target...And those jehadi groups fighting supposedly for freedom in Jammu and Kashmir are a different category," Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran told a group of diplomatic correspondents here.
"We start from a single premise that there is no cause which can justify the killing on innocent people and any kind of group which is indulging in this kind of murder should be booked.
"What can be ascribed to Al Qaeda or with regard to a possible bombing plot in the UK, we are finding again and again that the links go back to the same groups. They may not not be Al Qaeda but certainly they seemed to be functioning very closely aligned with Al Qaeda," Saran said in an obvious reference to Pakistan-based terror groups which have been behind major incidents of terrorist violence in India. |
