| Security Forces Kill Two Militants In Srinagar's Khonmoh | | |
Two militants were killed in an encounter on the outskirts of Srinagar in Khonmoh area after the gunfight with forces on Saturday morning, the police said. The police said they have recovered the bodies of the militants and their identity is being ascertained.
The police believe the militants were aiming to carry out an attack on the republic day today as “two militants were carrying a lot of ammunition.”
A Srinagar based police spokesman said that based on a “credible input about the presence of militants in Khonmoh area, outskirts of Srinagar” a cordon and search operation was launched Saturday morning jointly by Police and security forces in the area.
A police spokesman said asthe searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the terrorists. The fire was retaliated leading to a gunfight.
In the ensuing encounter, the spokesman said, two militants were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. He said their identities and affiliations are being ascertained.
Incriminating material including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. Police has registered a case and initiated investigation in the matter.
Citizens are requested not to venture inside encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any```.
Earlier this week, three Lashkar-e-Taiba militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Baramulla district.
