| SC/ST candidates to get specialized coaching facilities | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 11 The state government has given its nod to provide coaching facilities to students belonging to SC/ST categories to ensure they secure good merit and find ways to earn their livelihood in the later years. Official sources said that the Government has decided to provide special coaching facilities to over 2300 students enrolled in 9th to 12th classes belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories during the current year against 2200 last year. Over 2400 students would be benefited under reimbursement of examination fee scheme during the current year. Sources said that 250 SC students in ITI’s and ex-trainees will get stipend and subsidy on tools and kits respectively. Those 2400 students belonging to the OBC category are to be covered under reimbursement of examination fee scheme during the current year and over 700 OBC ITI trainees are to get stipend. About Rs one crore is to be spent on grant of post-matric scholarship during the current year against Rs.91 lakhs last year. The Government has laid emphasis on construction of hostels for SC boys and girls in different places. One such hostel in Women college in Srinagar has been completed at a cost of Rs.1.58 crores which can accommodate 100 female students. Five other such hostels are under construction at Rajouri, Kathua, Udhampur,Ramnagar and Anantnag. This scheme has been launched to ensure safety and security to students belonging to the backward and poor sections. |
