| Armed Zone retains overall trophy in Inter-Zonal Sports Meet | | For second consecutive sprint gold Tahir Ahmed gets one rank promotion | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 11 Maintaining the high standards of sports, the Armed Zone today retained the overall championship trophy securing highest 183 points out of 18 different events they contested for in the Annual Inter-Zonal Sports Meet of Jammu and Kashmir which came to an end with the holding of valedictory function at Gulshan Ground here this evening. Jammu Zone was at second position in points tally with 54 while the Training Zone had to contain itself with third place having 51 points. Kashmir Zone could not do well and finished last in the points tally getting 11 points in total. In the 100 mts race that took place today, Tahir Ahmed of Armed Zone retained the gold clocking in 11.6 seconds. Second position went to Jasbir Singh of Training Zone (11.75 seconds) while SPO Kundan Lal of Jammu Zone (11.8 seconds). For his exceptional performance, Tahir was awarded with one rank out of turn promotion by the Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda. Young Tahir has also distinguished himself in duty to counter military in district Doda and Kashmir Valley. He is presently serving with Special Strike Resource (SSR) in district Doda. Meanwhile, in the Tug of War final, Armed Zone pulled down Kashmir Zone in straight games to clinch the winners’ trophy. The five-day event wherein 400 police men and women besides the Gazetted Officers contested in 18 different events was declared closed by the Financial Commissioner, Home, S S Kapoor, who was chief guest in the valedictory function. The detailed results: 100 mts race: Tahir Ahmed, Armed Zone, 11.60 seconds, Ist; Jasbir Singh, Training Zone, 11.75 seconds, 2nd and Kundan Lal, Jammu Zone, 11.80 seconds, third.
