Sonia shapes up Cong poll campaign today

Though it is an all women conference which brings the AICC president Sonia Gandhi here tomorrow but the even will formally kick off the Congress poll campaign in Jammu and Kashmir.
Accompanied by the Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Water Resources Minister Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz, Sonia is arriving here tomorrow to address a convention of the Mahila wing of the Congress party. This is Sonia’s second visit to Jammu and Kashmir within one month.
Sonia’s address at the women conference will give a formal shape to the Congress’ election campaign in the state. The significant visit is just few months before the scheduled elections to the Jammu and Kashmir assembly.
"It would be the beginning of the poll campaign," Pratibha Thakur, president of the All-India Mahila Congress, told reporters as she oversaw the arrangements for the rally to be addressed by Gandhi. According to Thakur, Gandhi will spell out the Congress' programmes during the rally here and how the party had "transformed the political and economic landscape of the country". Her focus would be on women and their empowerment, Thakur added.
After her public address to the women folk the Congress president is scheduled to have a closed door meeting with some 150 party leaders at the Hari Niwas Palace. At this meeting, the Congress president will give a whip to the party leaders as how the campaign has to be taken.
Sources confirmed that during her visit to Jammu on Saturday the Congress President will address a close door meeting of the senior party leaders at Hari Niwas Palace. Invitations have been circulated to at least 150 senior leaders, including party legislators, ex-MLA's and senior party workers for an exclusive interaction with the party president.
During here meeting she is expected to discuss issues and problems of the common masses before finalising poll agenda of the party during the coming elections.
