| 119 drug shops shut | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 12 The Drug and Food Control Organization has cancelled 123 drugs licenses and sealed 119 unlicensed drug shops during 2007-08 which is the highest number even recorded by the department in a year. It lifted a record number of 1215 samples of medicines/drugs during 2007-08 of which 1029 were analyzed in the state laboratories at Srinagar and Jammu. Only 48 of these were found to be sub-standard. During the last year only 664 samples were lifted and only, 40 of them were found to be of sub-standard quality. For the first time special drives were launched periodically to inspect maximum number of drugs shops. This resulted in inspection of over 8205 drugs shops in the year. Drugs valuing Rs. 4.4 lakh were also seized by the department during the year. The department collected Rs. 67.55 lakh as licenses fee. The innovative mechanism of receiving complaint through tale helpline has led to detection of many unlicensed shops and prompt action taken. On food side the department again inspected a record number of 64140 eatable shops premises under PFA in the state during the year as compared to 60769 in 2006-07 and 33269 in 2005-06. The department tested 2205 samples, of which 392 were found to be adulterated or misbranded. Prosecution in 256 cases has been launched. The department recovered license fee of Rs. 55 lakh during 2007-08 against Rs. 62 lakh 2006-07 and Rs. 43 lakh in 2005-06. |
