| Cricket: Semifinals line-up drawn in Rohit Dogra memorial tourney | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 13 With Police XI and Unique Cricket Club winning respective ties, the semi-finals position has been cleared in the Rohit Dogra Memorial (Twenty-20) Cricket Tournament with the entry of Police XI and Unique Cricket Club in the last four stages here today. Now, in the semi-finals, to be played tomorrow at Government MAM College grounds, Police XI shall take on Unique Cricket Club in the afternoon session while Surinder Cricket Club shall be competing against Super Star Cricket Club in the morning. Earlier, in the quarterfinals played today, Police XI outplayed Kashyap Sports Club (KSC) by convincing margin of 64 runs. Batting first Police XI set a big target of 165 runs for the loss of eight wickets. In reply, KSC made a good start but fall of wickets on regular intervals caused early end to their innings on 100 in 19.3 overs. Riaz played fine innings of 50 (off 35 balls, 6x4, 1x6) runs while Naresh and Jatinder (not out) made valuable contributions of 27 and 28 runs respectively. Paramjeet added 17 runs to the total. From KSC, Rohit Pandita claimed three wickets, followed by Rakesh Koul who took two. Sanjay Raina and Akshay shared one wicket each. Later, chasing an uphill task of over eight runs per over, KSC could not maintain the required run-rate and in the process lost all their wickets on 100 runs mark in 19.3 overs. Old man in the team, Rajesh Dhar emerged as the maximum scorer with 22-ball 27 while Ajay and Ravi Pandita contributed 29 and 14 runs respectively. Suman added 13 runs to the total. Rajesh Gill was most successful bowler from Police XI with three for 13 in four overs. Atul Sharma, Sunil Sharma and Nazim shared two wickets each. For his match winning innings fifty runs, Riaz was named man of the match. In the first match of the day, Unique (Mishri Wala) Cricket Club (UCC) trounced Rajeev-Sameer Cricket Club (RSCC) by six wickets to find berth in the semi-finals. Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, RSCC set a target of 104 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. In reply, UCC attained the goal in 17.4 overs losing six wickets. Amit was top scorer with 39 runs including a six and a four while Jai Raj and Rajaji contributed 21 and 14 runs respectively. From UCC, Anku bowled well taking away three wickets for 13 runs in four overs. Sanjay Koul, Dheeraj and Rakesh Bhan shared apiece each. Batting second, UCC chased the total with a six hit by Rakesh Bhan in 17.4 overs for the loss of four wickets. Sheetal was top scorer with 34 runs, followed by Dheeraj, who played equally good innings, with 31 runs on the board with the help of three boundaries. Sanjay Bhan took two wickets for 12 runs in four overs from RSCC. Amit and Susheel shared one each. Dheeraj was named man of the match. Today’s matches were officiated by Rajesh Dhar, B K Tikoo, Jatinder, Sanjay, Gokul Verma and B B Verma. |
