The National Bahujan Party (NBP) was formally launched by its national President, KK Manhotra, who hails from Domana in Jammu and is settled in Delhi as an established businessman. Manohtra urged people to strengthen the hands of Dr Sat Pal, who has been the founder of BSP but had been sidelined alongwith several dedicated leaders by the close associates of Mayawati. He and other leaders said that the NBA was floated on an auspicious day of Dr Ambedkar Jayanti today. They claimed to be true loyalists of Dr Ambedkar and his ideology. They said that “the NBP will fight against the dictatorial attitude of Mayawati and her colleages who had been instrumental in the oppression of the weaker sections of people, especially the Dalits.” The NBA unit in Jammu was blessed by the grandson of Dr Ambedkar and grand daughter of Babu Jahjivan Lal.The NBA leaders announced that the party will field its candidates in majority of constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir and appealed to people to vote for the NBA for ensuring a hgealthy political change.Dr Sat Pal said that the NBA would not be a party of the weaker sections of people only.He said he and his colleagues have kept the party doors open for people of all castes and creed. He said the successive state Governments had done nothing for amelioration of people belonging to SCs,STs and other backward classes and hence vote for the NBA would be vote against opponents and enemies of the poor. The NBA leaders said that the office bearers of the party in Jammu and Kashmir besides the working committee will be announced shortly.Political observers said that the rise of NBA could prove a potential threat to BSP in Jammu.Since 1996 the BSP has been on the downhill journey in the state and in 2002 it could win one seat and the winner,Manjit Singh, has already joined the PDP. |
