Ambedkar centre holds exhibition cum sale

Dr Ambedkar Studies Centre, Department of Sociology University of Jammu today organized a grand exhibition cum sale of soft toys, fancy items, decorating material and show pieces in the lawns of the department.
The function was inaugurated by MLA Gandhi Nagar Raman Bhalla, who was chief guest on the occasion.
The programme started by paying floral tributes to the portrait Dr. BR Ambedkar.
Director, Dr. Ambedkar studies Centre, Dr. Abha Chauhan while welcoming the guests gave the background of the activities of the centre. She talked about the works done in the village Shumali, Satwari adopted by the centre. The centre is conducting a base line survey there and has started adult-education classes for women.
Today on the occasion of 117th birth anniversary of Ambedkar, the centre has taken an initiative to organize an exhibition-cum-sale of soft toys by poor and down trodden women of Shumali to provide platform to them to sell their products. Bhalla in his address said that Ambedkar was the messiah for down trodden people and the architect of our constitution. He said that the life of Dr. Ambedkar is a source of inspiration all. He appreciated the efforts of Ambedkar Studies Centre towards fast development of Shumali Village. He said Centre has been working tirelessly for the welfare of the Shumali. He appreciated the Soft Toys made by the down trodden women of Shumali village of Satwari who in spite of various hardships are working and earning their source of livelihood. Recalling his longtime association with university he said that Prof. J.R Panda worked for the upliftment of educational standards in the Jammu region. Commenting on the contributions of Dr. Ambedkar Studies Centre towards Dalits of Shumali village, Guest of honour on the occasion. Hafiza Muzaffer Secretary Jammu and Kashmir state women Commission deliberated that the efforts of both Prof. J.R Panda and Dr. Abha are living examples of honesty and dedication towards the down trodden masses. She expressed that the initiatives taken by Dr. Ambedkar Studies Centre is providing boost to all those down trodden who are suffering from poverty and unhygienic conditions.
Dr.Poonam Dhawan, Director, Women Studies Centre, University of Jammu presided over the function while appreciating the role of Dr. Ambedkar Studies Centre, she said that we should change our mindset towards women, especially those belonging to the poor and Dalit section of society. Prof. J.R Panda, Head, Department of Sociology, while addressing the gathering said that the items prepared by poor women of Shumali village are excellent and shows that Centre is really working hard for all those villages adopted by Dr. Ambedkar Studies Centre last year and providing such a platform for showcasing their talent is a trend setter for all those who want to work for down trodden people in real sense.
Function was conducted by. Deepika Sharma and Sheikh Kashif presented the vote of thanks.Faculty and Scholars were also present in the function.
