| Mufti’s Pak currency suggestion draws flak | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 15 Former Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's suggestion of using Pakistan currency in Jammu and Kashmir has triggered a major controversy in the State. Mufti's recent public address at Mohore in which he said that the leadership of Country was ready to allow cross-LoC trade by the end of this year and there would be a need to allow usage of Pakistani currency along with that of India in the state has sparked reactions from various political parties of the state. General Secretary PCC, Abdul Majid Paddar said that the view point of Mufti Mohammed Syeed should never be misconstrued as that of Congress party merely for being in alliance with them. He said that such situations have arisen many times during last some years but his party has always preferred to remain engrossed in development of state in every respect rather than wasting time over controversial issue raised by its alliance partners from time to time. " Usage of Pakistani currency in any part of India is against the national interest and the suggestions put forward by the former Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammed Syeed are no exception as Jammu and Kashmir is inseparable part of India," Paddar added. Describing the suggestions of former Chief Minister to use Pakistani currency in Jammu and Kashmir as anti national, Dr. Nirmal Singh, Senior leader Bhartia Janta party said that this was an attempt to consolidate vote bank at the time when elections for state Assembly are approaching nearer. Contradicting Paddar, Nirmal Singh said that Congress has always remained tightlipped over the controversial issues raised by its alliance party PDP and regarding the suggestions for usage of Pakistani currency in Jammu and Kashmir, it has chosen the same path while it should have broken the ties with PDP and initiated action against the leaders singing the tones of separatists. Sharif-u- din Shariq, Senior NC leader and MLA said that PDP has always tried to befool the masses particularly when elections are on cards. " I would not be surprised if Mufti retracts from his statement as her daughter Mehbooba did after observing sharp reactions from all quarters," Shariq added. Communist Party of India leader, Abdul Rehman Tikroo said that there is a need of improving relationship between the two countries for the betterment of the people on both sides but the usage of Pakistani currency in Jammu and Kashmir is a new thing to me. " I cannot say anything about the usage of Pakistani currency in Jammu and Kashmir but I am always for better relations between the two countries for the over all development of region," Tikroo added. |
