| Charak inaugurates exhibition on Rare Archival Records | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 15 Minister for Higher Education and ARI Trainings, Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak inaugurated exhibition on rare archival records and historical documents at Mubarik Mandi complex here today. The exhibition organized in connection with Jammu festival 2008 displayed documents dating back to 1724 A.D. reflecting various facts of the administration, socio-economic and cultural history of the state. Apprising the Minister about the series of the records preserved, Director Archives, Archaeology and Museums Mr. S.K.A. Qadri said that Jammu and Kashmir Archives repository has the distinction of being one of the oldest Archives Repository in the country. He said that records are written in Sanskrit, Persian, Arabic, English, Urdu, Dogri and Punjabi. Scholars, writers, researchers, academicians, students and general public evinced keen interest in the historical document showcased in the exhibition. Minister directed the officers of Archives department to ensure preservation of ancient and precious documents and make best use of Fumigation Chamber set up in the Repository, Mr. Charak also released the Picture Post cards of historic photographs published by the department. Secretary, Department of Culture Mr. N. K. Verma, Ms Sumita Sethi and Mr. M. Ashraf and ex-Mayor attended the function. |
