Nine accused arrested, two absconding
CB produces challan against 11 accused involved in sensational murder

JAMMU AUG-28- Crime Branch Jammu has produced the challan in the Court of Excise Magistrate here in a sensational brutal murder case against 11 accused, nine of whom have been arrested while two others are absconding since the date of occurrence of the murder
Giving details of the case, Sunil Sharma SSP Crime and Railways said here today that one Smt Darshana Devi lodged a report in Police station Kana Chak on June 29 last stating therein that at about 8.45 pm when she along with her family members were shifting in the compound of her dwelling house at Dayaran and her husband Bodh Raj son of Kathu had gone to nearby water channel, adjacent to the main gate to have a bath, a group carrying deadly weapons, swords, tokas and guns threw Mirch powder into the eyes of her husband and attacked him jointly with the deadly weapons.
The victim tried to runaway to safety into the house but the criminals like wild beasts chased the injured, dragged him out to veranda, inflicted number of grievous injuries on the body of the victim and left him a pool of blood, the SSP said adding that on making hue and cry, the accused fled away.
He said that FIR NO 81/ 2006 u/s 460,302,147,148,149,212,201 RPC, 3/25,4/25 1- A Act was lodged against the accused in Police Station Kana Chak. The accused involved in the cold blooded murder included Ramesh Singh alias Meheshi, Suram Singh, Tilak Raj, Balwan Singh, Ragubir Singh, Tilak Raj alias Radhy , Manohar Lal alias Kala, Amit Kalra alias Hira, Mangal Singh alias Manga ,Bharat Bushan Sharma and Naresh Kumar.
He said the bone of contention behind the murder is reported to be old enmity because of a dispute over land and shops situated at Kangrail.
The victim Bodh Raj, who had sustained multiple- injuries, was shifted to GMC but while on way at Mishriwalla, he succumbed to injuries. He said on receipt of this report a FIR was registered in Police station Kanachak and the investigations set in motion.
Observing the case as sensational, the investigation was later transferred to the Crime Branch by Police Headquarters under order NO 2323 of 2006 dated July 27,2006, the SSP said.
During the course of investigations, involvement of some more accused persons in the commission of crime came to light including Amit Kalra alias Hira son of Inderson resident of Bharat Nagar Sarwal (a professional criminal involved in a number of cases relating to murder, attempt to murder and other heinous offences registered in various police stations at Jammu), and his accomplices Mangal Singh alias Manga son of Bhagat Singh resident of Gurkha Nagar, Bharat Bushan Sharma son of Dev Dutt Sharma resident of Janipur and Naresh Kumar son of Roop Chand resident of Jindhra at present Indra Colony Lakar Mandi Janipur, the SSP said.
The SSP further said that both the accused had harboured the above named professional criminals and soon after committing the crime had thrown away the blood stained clothes worn by the accused Amit Kalra and Mangal Singh at the time of commission of the crime with criminal intention to destroy the evidence. However, the SSP added that the blood stained clothes of Mangal Singh were recovered from a Nallah at Janipur and the weapon of offences comprising one sword, five Tokas and country made DBL gun have been recovered on the disclosures of the criminals.
He said that out of 11 accused involved in the brutal murder case, 9 have been arrested while the accused Tilak Raj alias Radhy, a professional criminal and Raghubir Singh have absconded since the date of occurrence. After the completion of the investigation by the Crime Branch Jammu, all the accused have been challenged in the Court of Law for judicial determination, the SSP added.
