A sound suggestion indeed
4/15/2008 11:12:52 PM
A very sound suggestion indeed. The demand put forth by the Minister for Social Welfare Abdul Gani Vakil for setting up a commission of enquiry, to ascertain the income and wealth acquired by both the separatist and mainstream politicians in the state is highly sound and laudable. It are not only the ruling politicians alone, but many in the opposition, including those who have never tasted power, whether in the mainstream or those who are known as separatists and secessionists, who have accumulated huge assets and wealth, which is quite unaccounted for. While the ruling politicians have raised palatial buildings have vast landed property, fat bank accounts, in this state and outside the state as well as abroad, even some opposition leaders through dubious means have got huge ill gotten wealth, which by all means is out of proportion to their known source of income. The separatist and secessionist leaders are no exception. While the wealth accumulated by the ruling politicians and some mainstream opposition leaders, who have been playing the double game, is accumulated by misusing their official position and political clout, the huge assets built and wealth collected by many separatist leaders has come either through Hawala money from the anti national sources within the country and from abroad. If most of the mainstream politicians have become neo rich and wealthy during the course of all these years, many separatist leaders too have raised their palatial buildings and accumulated assets and wealth inside J&K, in other parts of the country and even abroad. Their children and wards have settled abroad or are getting quality education in European countries, casting heavy amount. There have been allegations all around against the politicians of all hue and colour of having misused their position to exploit the masses and loot the public exchequer. Even the rival leaders of various political parties are charging each other of resorting to corruption and under hand means for accumulating ill gotten wealth and having assets much beyond ant proportion to their known source of income. The truth about all these must come out in the interest of sustaining of people's faith in the political system and justice. It is the hard earned money of the tax payers, which the politicians are charged of having looted. Under the circumstances an independent enquiry into the whole murky deal and public out cry is imperative. Only a high level independent commission can bring out the truth. The anti corruption law and drive claimed to have been launched by the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad must bring in its ambit the politicians and public figures. But for that appointment of a commission is necessary. Not only the ill gotten money by the politicians should be unearthed but the same should be confiscated and those found guilty must be held accountable and appropriately punished.
