| Mattoo inaugurates workshop on ‘capacity building’ | | | JAMMU AUG-28- A week-long workshop on ‘Capacity Building of Women Managers in Higher Education’ was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor University of Jammu Prof Amitabh Matoo here today. About 50 participants from University of Jammu, Baba Gulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri, various education colleges and degree colleges from all over Jammu province attended the workshop sponsored by the University Grants Commission. In his inaugural address, Prof Matoo stressed the need for inclusion of women at decision making- levels and said such workshops can prove valuable. He said the workshop should focus upon the gender sensitive environment and hoped that in future also such programs would be conducted on gender sensitization for men. Prof. Jaya Indiresen, Coordinator National Consultative Committee UGC while delivering her keynote address said the awareness to include the women in development is coming up throughout the world and laid special emphasis upon the need for creating a hope and optimistic about weaving gender equality and gender justice into its politics and University curricular. Prof. Poonam Dhawan, Director Centre for Women’s Studies University of Jammu in her welcome address highlighted the need for getting more and more women involved at decision- making levels. She said that this type of workshop is being held for the second time in Jammu University and nine programs of training have already been held by the UGC .She said it is important to strengthen the women’s capacity to become stake holders in the system and to develop a culture of opportunity, dignity and respect. Dr Priyanka Katoch Lecturer Centre for Women’s Studies presented vote of thanks, while Mrs Vibhuti-Ubbott, Research Officer conducted the program.
