| Coalition boils, CM discusses issue with Congress Ministers | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 16 With the state drifting towards a massive political storm and the Congress coming under fire from all corners for allowing its ruling partner to unilaterally propose the dual currency formula, the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had a brainstorming session with the Ministers from his party here this evening. Following PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s assertion that his party will campaign to make the governments of India and Pakistan agree to free use of Indian and Pakistani currency on both sides of Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress is feeling the heat of political adversaries not only here but also across the country. For form an opinion on issue and discuss measures for dealing with this situation, the Chief Minister summoned a meeting of all Ministers from the Congress party at his official residence here this evening. The meeting which continued for around two hours took stock of the situation and decided to take up the matter with the party high command. Sources said that a dominant voice of Ministers in the meeting said that if defensive measures were not taken, the PDP stand on dual currency can deal with a severe blow to the Congress image and vote bank in Jammu region. Some of the Ministers, sources said, also pointed out that as this proposal has the niceties of stirring positive sentiments in Kashmir Valley, the Congress may draw bank there in the forthcoming assembly elections. While the PDP is not facing as much criticism for proposing the use of Pakistani currency in Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress has been corned by all parties for allowing this opinion to take rounds. The BJP and the Panthers Party have already launched a scathing campaign against the Congress on this issue. “PDP has nothing to loose in Jammu region and with this slogan it may well gain in the Kashmir Valley”, a senior Congress Minister told EARLY TIMES. He said, “people in Jammu are not much critical of the PDP for making this suggestion as the party is already known for its separatists tendencies…it is harming us badly”. The meeting discussed that some logical measures will have to be taken before the Congress constituency is damaged to the point of no repair. No final decision, however, could be arrived at in this evening’s meeting, said sources. |
