| A surprise visitor at city projects –Azad | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 16 The engineers and construction agencies engaged at some five major developmental projects in town were today taken aback finding Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad at the project sites without any advanced schedule. The Chief Minister today made a surprise visit to project sites of various buildings coming up in the town as the engineers and officers engaged at the sites did not have any idea of his visit. However, there neither any worries for the engineers nor any disappointments for the Chief Minister –all projects were found keeping the face as desired by the Chief Minister. In fact the fast blowing winds today did not allow the Chief Minister to chair a meeting of District Development Board of Ramban as the chopper carrying Azad, Ministers and officers could not proceed ahead of Reasi due to inclement weather. The Chief Minister instead of returning to the Secretariat to pick up the unscheduled work, utlised the opportunity to have a first hand account of the progress made on various projects. Driving straight from the airport, he first visited the 7-storey Udhyog Bhawan at Railhead which is in the advanced stage of completion. The building is likely to complete in all respects during the current month itself. During his visit to the development projects, the Chief Minister impressed upon the concerned officials to strictly follow the deadline for the completion of each project. He asked them to engage more workforce, should the need arise, to ensure that the timelines were adhered to in any case. The second target of Azad was the nearby site for the construction of the office complex of divisional commissioner. The 6-storey office complex would be executed at a cost of Rs. 12.48 crores. There is a provision for under-ground parking in the complex. The construction work has been started and the Chief Minister would formally lay the foundation stone once the work comes above the ground level. He has made it a point to lay foundation stones of projects only when the construction reaches above the ground level to ensure that these were not left midway after ceremonial foundation laying functions. The practice has been paying dividends and even mega projects are now completed in the stipulated timeframe. Later, the Chief Minister inspected the ongoing work on the Yatrri Niwas for Amarnath pilgrims being constructed at Bhagwati Nagar here. The building has already come up to the third floor level. The three-story complex would serve as accommodation for Amarnath shrine bound pilgrims in Jammu. The foundation stone of the Rs.4.91 crore project was laid by the Chief Minister on February 16. The Yatri Niwas will have 15 halls and administrative block with registration office, SRTC office, ATM facility, fair price and medical shops and dispensary. The Bhojanalya block will have langar halls and two kitchens on each floor connected with the main dormitory. The Chief Minister also visited the upcoming Rs. 120 crore super specialty hospital at Reshamgarh Colony here. It is a significant development project in the health sector aimed at upgrading the existing Government Medical College Jammu Hospital to the level of AIIMS, New Delhi. Chief Minister also inspected pace of work on the 5-storey Attendant’s Sarai being constructed at a cost of Rs. 3 crore. The sarai will have 15 dormitories for attendants who do not have night stay facility in the city. The Chief Minister also visited the site of a new complex for the J&K Public Service Commission at Rshamgarh Colony. The work on the project has commenced on March 1, 2008. |
