| Dogri, Kashmiri included translation mission | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 17 In a historic decision two leading regional Languages of Jammu and Kashmir State viz Kashmiri and Dogri have been included in "National Translation Mission" a Project of Translation which would be completed at the cost of rupees two hundred crores . This major initiative has been taken by Union Ministry of Human Resource Development , New Delhi in order to widen the access of Technical and Scientific works of different languages will be translated in Kashmiri and Dogri languages. This was announced here today by Dr .Rafeeq Masoodi, Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. ''The department will engage at least 2000 prolific researchers of both languages to translate the works of Technical and scientific nature into Kashmiri and Dogri Language, Dr Masoodi told news persons. . He said under this prestigious project, thousands of publications are already being chosen for translation during this year into Kashmiri and Dogri. ''This project is aiming to revitalize the art of translation among Kashmiri and Dogri speaking population of the State across the Indian sub-continent and reverse the long decline in readership access to major works of Technical and scientific importance, he added. He further said that current analysis showed that the Kashmiri and Dogri languages are the first language of millions of people in South Asia including India an d Pakistan the majority of the population living in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, will be benefited with this project. Dr Masoodi ,who along with , Prof Lalit Magotra, S.S Anand Lehar and Shiekh Aijaz attended a high level meeting at New Delhi said that the National Translation Mission (NTM) would urgently take up the task of identifying gaps, promoting good quality translation, training, disseminating information about translation and translators, and co-ordinating ongoing work by public and private organizations. He added that as an activity, translation as been going on between different pairs of languages in t he Indian subcontinent for a long time. Translation, as a passion, as seen many great minds in action in different speech communities in India and elsewhere. As a profession, translation is challenging and becoming more lucrative, particularly in recent decades. As a field of research , Translation Studies seem to have emerged as a field wit numerous ideas emanating from linguistics, philosophy, literary studies, semiotics, lexicology, ant topology, computer science, and a cost of other fields. |
