Shillong, Aug 29 India today sought the deportation of Ulfa general secretary Anup Chetia and other militant leaders from Bangladesh during a bi-annual meeting of the border forces of the two countries which began here today. The three-day meet between the Inspector General, Border Security Force(BSF) and Deputy Director General of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) is aimed at better understanding and coordination between the two forces, a statement issued here said.
The BSF is also putting on the table the issue of Bangladesh training and giving shelter to insurgent groups as well as supplying arms to anti-national elements.
The discussions focussed on issues like illegal migration and trans-border crimes. A list of Indian insurgent groups, their hideouts and training camps in Bangladesh was also handed over to BDR authorities for taking action against them.
The ten-member BDR team, which arrived here through Dawki border yesterday, was led by its deputy Director General Brigadier General S M Golam Rabbani. He was accompanied by sector commanders of Sylhet, Rangamati, Comilla, Khagrachari and Mymensingh areas.
The Indian delegation was headed by S K Dutta, IG BSF of Tripura, Cachar and Mizoram frontier. He was assisted by J P Sinha, IG of Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur and Nagaland (AMMN) frontier, headquartered here.
The DIGs of Shillong, Guwahati, Tura, Mizoram, Silchar, Udaipur, Panisagar and Teliapara sectors were also present.
The recent "unprovoked" firing by the BDR in Cachar sector of Assam which claimed the lives of two Indian civilians and injured a 11-year-old child, was also taken up during the meeting. |
