| You should wear traditional dresses and celebrate traditional festivals: IGP to students | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Apr 19 World Heritage Day was celebrated at the Jammu and Kashmir Police Public School in Bemina, Srinagar, on Saturday with a great pomp and show. A heritage club was also inaugurated and the school has also become the first from the Kashmir Valley to become a member of INTACH. Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, S.M.Sahai, was the chief guest, while Deputy Inspector General of Police CKR, Srinagar, A. S. Lone, and Salim Beg, the State Convenor INTACH J and K were the guests of honour. On the occasion, Sahai urged the school authorities to conduct picnics to heritage spots so that students could be made aware of their heritage. He said that in this age of fashion, students should not be ashamed to wear their traditional dresses and to celebrate their traditional festivals with pride. .A documentary on the heritage of Srinagar was also shown to students. After this, the students presented the traditional "Rouf" dance which was liked by one and all. Salim Beg also gave a presentation on heritage of Srinagar. He also highlighted the work done by INTACH in spreading heritage education Earlier, the function started with the keynote address by R. K .Vohra, Principal of the school.In his address, Vohra stressed upon the need for sensitizing young children of the schools and colleges with their heritage and culture. He emphasized that in case we do not integrate our younger generation with their heritage and culture, the erosion of values cannot be checked in time of come. The vote of thanks was delivered by Shabnum Muzaffer, the school's senior most teacher. |
