| Bravery acts of various police officers remain unsung | | Govt fails to make investiture ceremony annual yearly feature | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 19 The number of unsung and unseen medal police officers has increased during the last four years because during this period the Government failed to hold an investiture ceremony where the deserving officers and jawans could have been given the medals. For a change the Government has decided to hold an investiture ceremony on April 21 where about 46 police officers would be honoured with Sheri Kashmir police medals for distinguished and meritorious services. Since the total number awardees has touched over 400 the Government took a decision that the investiture ceremony will be held to honour 46 officers who have won the gold medals during the 2007.One senior police officer said that giving medals to over 400 officers would been a cumbersome exercise so it was decided to invite only those officers who were awarded the medals during 2007. The police medals to the remaining 400 officers and jawans would be sent to their residences. It is yet to be decided whether the medals will be delivered by hand or through some special courier service. Several officers, when contacted, said that “our meritorious services have gone unnoticed as not many will come to know that we have been awarded with Sheri Kashmir police medals.” They said had the Government made the investiture ceremony a regular annual police feature “our services would have not gone unsung and unknown.” They wanted the Government to read out names of all the awardees during the ceremony on April 21 so that people could be apprised of “our distinguished services”. |
