| PDF, CPI (M) to support Mir’s JKDP, but not merge | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 19 Peoples’Democratic Front, headed by Hakim Mohd.Yasin, and the CPIM,led by M.Y.Tarigami,have decided to support Ghulam Hassan Mir’s Jammu Kashmir Democratic Party(JKDP) for the formation of the third front. It would be a sort of the united front and both the PDF and the CPIM will maintain their separate identity. Inside reports said that both the PDF and the CPIM will not be bound by the constitution of the JKDP.Once the front was floated formally it will have its common minimum programme. In addition to this the Front, which is yet to be given a name, will adopt common poll manifesto. Political analysts are of the opinion that a united front of JKDP, PDP and CPI(M) may not pose a serious threat to the Congress,PDP and the National Conference unless some moderate separatists and dissidents from the mainstream political parties join the front. It is in this context that Ghulam Hassan Mir,who after having been expelled from the PDP,has floated the JKDP,said that more prominent political leaders would join him in the near future. At present his target is to weaken the base of the PDP in the Kashmir valley. Sarfaraz Khan MLA and Sonaullah Dar, a former Minister, have already announced their support to Mr Mir.But this does not seem to be sufficient.Informed sources said that the National Conference may try to reach a secret understanding with the front in a bid to cut the PDP to its size. |
