| Heritage status for Amarnath Shrine sought | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 19 Members of the Shri Amarnath Yatra Welfare Organisation has demanded National heritage status for the holy cave of Shri Amarnath shrine. The demand was forwarded by the members of the organization during their meeting with the UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi on Friday. Besides this, the members urged her to look in to their genuine demands for smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage. During our meeting with UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi we raised several issues related to smooth conduct of the yatra arrangements and its schedule, Rajinder Sharma National president of the organization said. “We apprised her of difficulties faced by various NGO’s who set up community kitchens including issue of charging hefty fee by Amarnath Shrine board for granting permission to set up langar enroute yatra track and at base camps. Sharma said Sonia Gandhi after hearing their point of view also gave them an assurance that she would take up the issue raised by them with the state government to find a possible solution. Sharma said during their meeting with Mrs Gandhi they also raised the issue of building ropeway from Baltal route to holy cave.He said we apprised her that this decision of t he board will result in losing the true religious entity of the yatra by turning the place in to a tourist spot where people with sole purpose of fun and entertainment will also come and pollute the holy and environment of the place. He said we informed Mrs Gandhi that helicopter services is leading to melting of the lingam before the completion of the yatra. The board promises to look in this demand but so far has not taken any step in this direction. We have demanded that helipad should be at a minimum distance of 2 kms from the holy cave.Shamra said the date and duration of t he yatra should be determined by a seaprate committee of religious heads of various organisations under the leadership of Mahant Shri Deependra Giri ji Maharha and not by Shri Amarnath Shrine board as it is totally a religious and not an administrative issue. |
