| Chakka jam on Monday | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 19 Alleging failure of the Govt to take cognizance of the demands of increasing fares and freight, Jammu Province Passengers Vehicles Transport Association today has resolved to observe one day Chakka Jam on Monday April 21 is support of their demands. This was informed by T S Wazir, MLC and chairmen of the Transport Association while addressing a press conference here today. The decision of Chakka Jam taken in support of the demands of waiving of passenger tax, withdrawal of 8.4% service tax, issuance of driving licenses to auto rickshaw operators and parking fee of taxis at railway station etc, said Wazir. Wazir said that problems being faced by commercial vehicle transporters of J&K state on the account of hike in Petrol, spare parts, lubricants, VAT etc and the plying of vehicles have become highly un-economical and increase in passenger fares have become inevitable. He demanded for revision of passenger fares and freight as per the other states Association submitted memorandum with cost of operation to the Chairman, Fare Standing Committee and State Govt nothing till date have come to increased the fare, he added. The Chairman of the association said that this present government has no Transport polices, advisory committee for transporter and we are not understand why the govt. is dithering on the issue of transporters of J&K result of which we faced many problems, he regretted. He further said that earlier Railway Authorities were charging Rs, 1200 per year per vehicle but now the same authorities are demanding Rs. 3600 per year per vehicle as parking fee which our associations can neither tolerate nor pay. He further said that if our demands are not met by the authorities within one week, then we shall be forced to go in for indefinite strike and for inconvenience caused to the public at large/students community, Govt and authorities shall be solely responsible. |
