| PSSP to celebrate 150th anniversary of 1857 martyrs | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 19 In order to pay homage to martyrs of 1857 and all those who laid down their lives for sake of the country, Poorva Sainik Seva Parishad J&K (PSSP) has decided to celebrate and Commemorate 150th Anniversary of first freedom struggle of 1857. This was declared by Brig. Suchet Suchit Singh, president of the Poorva Sainik Seva Parishad J&K in a press conference here today. Singh said that the First War of Independence of 1857 was biggest event of the World in then history and was started on 10 May 1857 from Meerut and Ambala Cantt simultaneously and within 3 days it spread all over India. He added that both Hindus and Muslims fought against the Britishers and three and half lacs people sacrificed their lives all over India. Giving details of the programme, Singh informed that a grand function is being held on 27 April 2008 at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium, Jammu University in Collaboration with History Department, University of Jammu to highlight historic facts of the freedom struggle. On the occasion, Lt Gen (Retd) Anoop Singh Jamwal, PVSM, AVSM**, VSM, ADC will be the Chief Guest while Banke Lal Organizing Secretary Sanskar Bharti will be the main speaker, he added. Subsequently, he further said that on May 10 a grand function will also organized to commemorate 150th anniversary of first freedom struggle of 1857 |
