| 5 killed, arms recovered | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 19 Close to the heels of security warning that over 400 militants were waiting on the other side of the Line of Control to cross over, the security forces today killed five militants in the North Kashmir area. A Pakistani infiltrator was among five militants killed by the security forces in north Kashmir on Saturday, official sources said. The deputy inspector general of police said that a search operation was launched at Warnov forest at Lolab in the frontier district of Kupwara on Saturday morning. The senior cop said when the security forces were about to storm a particular area, militants opened fire. The fire was returned and in the fierce clash, four militants were killed. A massive search operation in the area was still going on. In another incident, troops guarding the Line of Control noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in Keran sector early on Saturday morning under the cover of darkness. When challenged and asked to surrender, the militants opened fire. The fire was returned and in the clash, one infiltrator was killed. A search was still going on in the area when reports last came in, he said. Meanwhile, in Jammu region the Army claimed to have recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition including 10 Kgs of RDX in Marmat area of Doda district this morning Troops of 10 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched a search operation in Marmat area during the wee hours today, Defence Spokesman said. He said that during the search operation troops busted a hideout and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition. The recovery, he said, included 10 Kgs RDX, four hand grenades and one 303 rifle. Troops also recovered one pistol along with its 122 cartridges from Tinga forest area in Reasi district, the spokesman added. |
