| Yashpal Sharma joins PDP | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 20 Impressed by the pro-people policies being propagated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), popular leader of Poonch, Yash Pal Sharma today joined the PDP along with hundreds of his supporters and well wishers. Yashpal Sharma, who had contested Poonch by-elections as independent candidate, had proved as popularity by securing second position in the triangular contest. Former Chief Minister and patron of PDP, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed welcomed Yash Pal Sharma in the party and hoped that with his joining the party would be further strengthened in Poonch and Rajouri districts in particular and Jammu province in general. Yash Pal Sharma, who met Mufti Mohammad Sayeed two days back, had expressed his desire to join PDP to serve the people. Today in the presence of PDP patron, Mr Sharma formally joined the party and expressed his full faith in party leadership. Speaking on the occasion, Yash Pal Sharma said that he has taken this decision due to the policies and programmes of the PDP. "It is all due to the policies of PDP that peace, to a large extend, has been restored in the State", he observed and pointed that inhabitants of border areas have been living peacefully as PDP leadership has convinced both Indian and Pakistani governments to announce cease fire on Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB). "Policies being propagated by the PDP, for restoring peace, have been accepted at national and international forums", he said termed Mufti Mohammed Sayeed as a crusader of peace and said it was hightime to strengthen hands of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for restoring lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir. "Only a party like PDP can protect interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir", he said and added that during his tenure as Chief Minister of the State Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has proved himself as good administrator and able leader. First time after 2002 policies were framed to accelerate developmental activities in far-flung and remote areas, he remarked and recalled that it was during the regime of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed special programmes were formulated for the development of Poonch and Rajouri districts. It was homecoming for Yashpal Sharma as he was vice president of PDP before joining Congress in 2002. A popular leader of Poonch, Yashpal Sharma had contested by-election of Poonch-Haveli assembly seat as independent candidate and stood second by securing 16,299 votes. |
