18 dead in NH mishap

In yet another gruesome accident on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, at least 18 persons, including four women, are reported to have died and 28 others injured as a bus skidded off the track near Ramban.
Reports reaching here said that an apparently over-loaded passenger bus skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge at Anokhifall near Shairbebi on National Highway, this evening. The ill fated bus bearing number 4595 JK02N was on way to Banihal from Jammu when it met with the mishap.
Army and civilian administration immediately swung into action and launched a rescue operation. About forty-six persons were believed to be traveling in the bus, which met with the accident, sources added
At least a dozen persons died on the spot and their bodies were taken out of gorge by the rescue team. The injured were rushed to District Hospital Ramban, where six more passengers succumbed to their injuries. "The total number of causalities so far have rose to eighteen, which include four women", sources said. They said that twenty-eight injured passengers were admitted in Ramban hospital, where condition of most of them was stated to be critical.
Help was also sought from army keeping in view the critical condition of fifteen passengers, sources said adding, all the fifteen passengers are being airlifted to Jammu Medical College Hospital by an army chopper from Chanderkote.
Police Control Room (PCR) Ramban through confirmed only nine causalities, ACD Ramban said that fourteen persons have died so far. The identity of the deceased persons could not be ascertained immediately.
