RCF observes 53rd Railway Week Celebrations

Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala celebrated 53rd Railway Week Celebrations. During the celebrations, 129 employees including 13 officers were awarded for their meritorious and outstanding performance during the year 2007-08.
Railway Week is being observed by all Zonal Railways and Production Units to mark the occasion of introduction of First Train in India on 16 April'1853.
RCF has achieved a record production of 1480 coaches during the year 2007-08 which is highest production by RCF in any year. It has so for manufactured 19438 coaches since inception in 1987, which is almost 50% of the coaching fleet of Indian Railways. RCF has set an even higher target to manufacture 1550 coaches during 2008-09, which includes 150 Stainless Steel Coaches for Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express trains and 100 low cost Stainless Steel Coaches with air Spring suspension System for first time introduction in other mail/express trains.
In order to improve the safety of passengers, crashworthy features have been introduced in the coaches, which are capable of absorbing high impact energy in non-passenger area of a coach at its ends, while keeping the middle passenger portion safe, in an accident. RCF has planned to manufacture 300 such coaches during 2008-09.
After inaugurating the function by lighting of the traditional lamp, Sh. S.K. Suri, General Manager, RCF gave away the awards to the outstanding officials. Addressing the audience Sh. Suri said, RCF has made a great contribution to the nation by meeting 50% of the total requirement of passenger coaches of Indian Railways. He complemented RCF employees for not only achieving highest ever production of 1480 coaches but also for achieving the highest ever growth of 12% in a single year. He attributed this success to the excellent team work by the officials. He also made a mention of great strides, RCF has made in the fields of sports, culture and energy conservation. Sh. Ajmer Singh, Sr. Sports Officer, RCF had a great honour of being one of the select 70 celebrities of India who got the privilege to carry the Olympic Torch in New Delhi on 17.04.08.
While congratulating RCF officials for their outstanding contribution, Sh. Suri exhorted RCF employees to scale new heights and achieve even higher target of 1550 coaches set for the current year. RCF is also planning to further enhance the production capacity in the years to come. The function was concluded with a brief cultural Program.
