| Tacit campaign against suggestion of independent authority for mountain belts | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 22 Observers here fell intrigued over tacit campaign being launched against a suggestion of constituting an independent authority for the development of Chandanwari and Baltal areas which serve as vital road links to the holy cave of Amarnath in Eastern Kashmir. The amazement is expressed when there has been no such plan and one of the mainstream political organization is said to have decided to use this “issueless an issue” in its pre-poll campaign. Senior Government functionaries said today the suggestion for constituting an independent authority for the development of Baltal and Chandanwari had not come from any quarter and hence the tirade being launched against the proposal was baseless and aimed at fomenting communal polarization. They said already leaders of one mainstream political party have announced that they will not allow the independent authority to be constituted. These functionaries said that it was unfortunate that the spirit of communal togetherness behind the annual Amarnath Yatra was being eroded by those political parties which were trying to make a mountain out of a molehill. They said on one hand political leaders have been demanding autonomous hill status for Poonch-Rajouri and Doda-Kishtwar belts on the other if an independent authority was constituted for the development of mountain belts in and around Chandanwari and Baltal politicians should have no reason to protest against it. They said that this independent authority, even if the Government considers it a viable solution, would not constitute people imported from far off lands. They could be experts in various fields of development. They had fears that those political parties that had no issue to rake up during the ensuing election were now trying to make an issue, which does not exist, for garnering voters support adding that this was unfortunate. |
