| Clerical staff extends strike till May 1 | | ‘Criticize government of backtracking from the agreement’ | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 23 There seems no end to the clerical strike, who are on strike for the last 28 days demanding removal of grade anomalies? The non-serious and arrogant attitude of the government has forced the clerical staff to extend their pen down strike up to May 1, 2008. The strike observed by the clerical staff has paralyzed the working in almost all the government offices throughout the state. In Jammu city, the striking employees held a massive rally in front of the Divisional Commissioner’s office shouting slogans like ‘coalition government Hai Hai’, Hamara agreement lagoo karoo, varna hartal face karo- face karo’ double standard policy hai hai,’ down with pick and choose policy’ and ‘employees unity zindabad’. Addressing the protestors, Ram Kumar Sharma Coordinator and other speakers strongly criticized the government for ignoring the demands of the employees and not heeding to the voice of reason. The step motherly attitude of the government has compelled the clerical staff to launch agitation. The speakers said the government has miserably failed to implement its agreement reached with the striking employees on March 10 last and warned to intensify the stir if the demands were not conceded to by May 1. The striking employees later took out a procession up to Civil Secretariat. However, they were stopped by the police from entering into the secretariat. Police is also reported to have used force to disperse the protestors. |
