| 6072 border families to get plots | | Speaker inspects pace of construction on migrant colony | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 23 Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Tara Chand accompanied by Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Hardesh Kumar Singh and other senior officers of district administration, today visited the site of Khour border migrant colony at Gurah Jagir Akhnoor and took stock of the pace of work. Expressing satisfaction over the pace of work, the Speaker directed the engineers of various departments to further speed up the pace and complete the basic infrastructure and other peripheral work so that the physical possessions of plots are handed over to the affected families. He laid stress for immediate attention on the installation of PHE pipes, electric line and construction of roads, lanes and drains and protection bund. Speaking to the media persons on the site, Tara Chand said that 6072 families of border areas which shifted from their homes and stayed in make shift camps at various places after eruption of Kargil conflict have been allotted 5 marla plots for construction of alternate shelters at Gurah Jagir colony. The colony has been planned on modern lines which will have all basic amenities as available in towns and cities. He said that government has given priority to tackle the problems of border people who have suffered a lot due to border disturbances and Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad himself visited the Khour block to solve their problems on priority. He himself distributed the ownership papers of plots and cash assistance of Rs.25000 to each family as first installment for construction of houses. Speaker rubbished the vilification campaign launched by some misguided people against the government that site for developing the colony is not a proper place for habitation. He said that engineers have put their hard efforts to develop the site and things have been planned properly. He said proper arrangements for flood channels to discharge the rainy waters have been made and there is no question of any kind of flood apprehension, Mr. Tara Chand asserted. Deputy Commissioner, Jammu issued suitable instructions to the officers for expediting the ongoing works. He specifically asked the PHE and PDD engineers to complete the work on war-footing basis so that the people could start the construction work. |
