| Golden handshake: Centre considers additional funds for HMT employees | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Apr 23 Government of India is considering release of additional funds to meet the actual requirements for the implementation of the voluntary Retirement Scheme in full for the HMT employees Srinagar. The move, which is expected to come as a great relief to the employees of ailing Public Sector Undertaking (PSU), came on the intervention of Prof. Saifuddin Soz, Union Minister for Water Resources, sources told News Agency of Kashmir. As per officials in the personal section of the minister, the central government has agreed to consider the requirement of funds and the PSU will be provided additional funds to meet the demand of Golden Handshake scheme, launched by the government. Earlier, following the taking up of HMT employee's problems with Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises by Prof. Soz, the government released Rs. 10 crores for the purpose which was utilized to finance the VRS. The Union Minister for Water Resources, Prof. Soz, it will be recalled, has been repeatedly taking up the matter with the Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Government of India, for a lasting solution to the problems of HMT employees in Srinagar. In his latest communication, dates April 7, 2008 to Prof. Soz, the Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Santosh Mohan Dev has informed that further funds for final settlement under the URS would be released as soon as the utilization of the funds released already was intimated. Sources said that earlier also Soz persuaded the government for setting up a group of ministers (GOM) that would plan the revival of defunct Industrial units in Kashmir. HMT watch factory in Srinagar's outskirts, Zainakot, and Indian Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Ltd are topping the list. |
