| All set for PM’s visit | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 23 The routine activities of normal life in winter capital and some adjoining areas is fast coming to a halt as entire official machinery is gearing up for the two visit of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh beginning Friday. “Prime Minister is here for two days, he has to visit four places and address two public meetings…managing this is not an easy task”, a senior Police officer told EARLY TIMES even as the sleuths of elite Special Protection Group have taken over the venues of VVIP visit. A comprehensive security grid has been thrown around the areas where Prime Minister will be visiting and the locations have been thrown out of bounds for the civilian movement. Additional companies of police paramilitary forces have been deployed at Katra, where the Prime Minister is to address the university convocation, at Akhnoor and at Kishtwar. Official sources said men of the Special Protection Group have reached Jammu three days back and have started fanning in areas where the Prime Minister was scheduled to visit and carrying out sanitization drill. All departments have geared up to make the arrangements foolproof. The State Motor Garage has withdrawn additional vehicles from all dignitaries and 90 VIP cars have been put at the disposal of GAD and Home department for further deployment to ferry the entourage of the Prime Minister to different locations. In this connection the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad convened a high level meeting here today and finalized the arrangements for Prime Minister’s visit. During his two-day visit, the Prime Minister would dedicate to the nation the 390 MW Dul-Hasti Hydroelectric Power Project at Kishtwar, inaugurate a major bridge over river Chenab at Akhnoor and address the first convocation of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University. The Prime Minister is also likely to address public meetings at Akhnoor and Kishtwar. Meanwhile, to ensure incident free visit of the Prime Minister the Director General Police, Kuldeep Khoda today, visited Ramban, Katra, Kishtwar to review the security arrangements. In the morning DGP Khoda flew to these areas in a chopper and interacted with senior officers of the police and paramilitary forces. |
