| To watch India, allow Pak | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 25 If you don’t allow us to beam Pakistani content, we won’t let you to watch Indian channels –this is how the situation has assumed in the Kashmir Valley. As the channel war heats up in the Valley, now it is the turn of operators. The cable operators have shot back in retaliation blacking out the Indian television channels. They have decided to black out national and international channels in protest against the Jammu and Kashmir government’s move to ban the airing of Pakistani and local "unauthorized" news channels in the State. A local cable operator defiantly remarked, "We have stopped airing all national and international channels in the Valley as a mark of protest to the Wednesday's ban on local and Pakistani channels." However, violating the ban, unauthorized local channels continued their transmission with a scroll explaining the black out. The J&K police said that it has nothing to say about the violation of the ban and passed the buck to the Srinagar district magistrate. "Since the magistrate has ordered the ban, it's for him to implement it," Kashmir range IGP S M Sahai said. Meanwhile, ruling out action against the cable operators, district magistrate Sheikh Ajaz Iqbal, said the people should act against them and stop paying the monthly subscription. Reacting to the ban, People's Democratic Party president Mahbooba Mufti said, "The order is biased and unfortunate. Nowhere in the country has I&B ministry banned Pakistani channels." She demanded that Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad should take up the issue with the Centre and get the ban revoked. |
